Fantasy Football News - Mark Long of the Associated Press reported earlier today that Cecil Shorts has been cleared by doctors to resume practice and is symptom free from the concussion he sustained a couple of weeks ago.
FFLockerRoom Take - This is great news for owners that had been riding the coat tails of Shorts into the playoffs. Unfortunately, you will not know what to expect from him returning from injury. Most likely though, you will probably not have a better option. He had been so good prior to his injury that sitting him is almost out of the question. Make sure to check out our wide receiver rankings to see where our expert Brandon Berg has him listed. I’m sure he will climb up quickly leading into the week 15 game against Miami. The Dolphins are ranked 25th with 250 yards given up to quarterbacks per game this season.
The fantasy option that Cecil throws a wrench into, is playing the Miami Dolphins defense. Many have the Miami D in their top 5 going up against Jacksonville and I think that is too high. We have the Miami D ranked 10th for this week and with Shorts expected to take the field I might even rank them lower a couple of spots. That is how much I believe in this kid. And Chad Henne is already thanking his lucky stars. Last week, the one week without Shorts, was the first he hadn’t thrown a TD since taking over for Blaine Gabbert.
Justin Blackmon is another player that should benefit from Cecil being back on the field. Last week as the #1, you could tell he wasn’t ready for that kind of responsibility. Now that he will be the #2 again, he might be a decent flex again. Hopefully you don’t have to make that call though.
