Fantasy Football News - Dealing a huge blow to fantasy owners that took a chance on Robert Griffin III in 2012 drafts, it is now being said that the Washington Redskins franchise player will not start the week 15 game. Per sources close to the Redskins players, it was announced from coach Mike Shanahan that Kirk Cousins will get the start. At this time, the Redskins have not officially come out with a statement but all signs are pointing to RGIII sitting on the sidelines this week. It was known all week that he was taking part in limited practices but more news started to circulate on Friday that he had not taken one snap with the first-team. Kirk Cousins took all the first-team reps this week making it seem like the decision was possibly made a lot earlier. Make sure to check back with our Active/Inactive GameDay report for official designations.
FFLockerRoom Take - Obviously this is a big blow to fantasy teams that have been carried to the playoffs by Griffin. Hopefully though, you have a quality backup on the bench to plug-in. In most cases, during the 2012 drafts, RGIII was not drafted as a starting QB. Most often he was drafted as a backup with upside, and upside he had. He had become the frontrunner for fantasy MVP before this injury destroying his opponents on the ground and through the air.
We do not think Kirk Cousins is worth a start in any standard leagues. But in two-quarterbacks leagues where you owned Griffin, it’s possible that you do not have a choice. Hopefully you get the news in time and are able to make the switch before games kickoff on Sunday.
This news does help the Browns defense, as they had been playing better during the past couple of months. It does however hurt the Redskins offense not having their best, most dynamic, player on the field. Alfred Morris will be leaned on heavily, but can he carry the load with Cousins as his quarterback? I can’t wait to find out because I really like Morris. Alfred will not be moving up or down on my rankings based on this news, I think his number of carries will net him a good day for his owners. And I don’t think this necessarily hurts the value of Pierre Garcon who had been having a very nice past month. Lets remember it wasn’t till RGIII got hurt and Kirk Cousins took over, that Pierre got that TD in week 14.
