Mikel LeShoure, RB, Detroit Lions
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Before scoffing at us for listing Mikel among the top 20 of running backs heading into 2013 you need to remember a few things first.
In 2011, Mikel LeShoure’s rookie season, he tore his Achilles before the season began and he was done. So last season was essentially his rookie year. You also need to remember that he plays in a high-octane offense with Calvin Johnson working the outside. And with Megatron always commanding extra attention, Mikel should have plenty room to run.
Of course this is all based on the Lions sticking with the backfield as is, with Mikel and Joique Bell. Currently there is much talk about current Miami Dolphin, Reggie Bush, becoming a Lion when free agency officially opens on March 12th. I’m personally not a huge fan of the move but we need to rank as if things the way they are now will be that way on day one of the season. And right now, I like LeShoure.
If you were able to see him run, I believe you would say that his numbers aren’t as good as he ran. He runs hard and downhill. He needs to learn to trust the blockers in front of him more and hopefully in year two, he will. LeShoure also needs to work on his ball control, as he lost three fumbles in 2012.
You typically wouldn’t think of Mikel as a pass-catching back but surprisingly, he caught 30 balls last season.
