Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Randall Cobb showed off his prowess last year by becoming one of the league’s premier yards after the catch receivers. He snatched 80 balls for 954 yards last year as well as 8 touchdowns. Another great thing about Cobb is his sure hands; he had a 77% catch rate last year, tops in the league with only Percy Harvin (73%) and Mario Manningham (74%) coming close. That catch rate should stay pretty consistent, and that also shows him as a very valuable ppr receiver heading into the future as he progresses and gets worked in more and more into the game plan.
The big question in Green Bay is if there is enough passes to go around between James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Jermichael Finley and Cobb. Last year, there appeared to be, and while no Packers receiver hit the 1000 yard mark, Cobb led them all with 954 yards. Part of that was due to injuries to Greg Jennings and Nelson, but Cobb should once again be a prominent feature in the Packers passing game. I think we can even see his 104 targets number rise this year as well.
Cobb should be viewed as a high-end WR2 heading into drafts next year for standard leagues and possibly even higher in ppr leagues. He finished 17th last year among receivers in standard scoring, but I expect improvements next year. I really like Cobb this year and for the future, if you’re in a dynasty league, don’t be afraid to overpay a little bit for this guy.
