Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Arizona Cardinals
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
And the Steelers continue to look like a team in shambles, but they are the Steelers. I’m sure they’ll be fine…
But onto Rashard Mendenhall, who’s going to get a fresh start in sunny Arizona with the Cardinals. It just so happens that his former coach, Bruce Arians, is now the head coach for the Cards, so Mendenhall should be very happy. He only received a one-year deal, but he expected that, after a tumultuous 2012 season in which he was even suspended by his own team.
Now in Arizona where they have had trouble keeping RB’s healthy, he gets a clean slate. Remember that Mendenhall will only be 26 when the season starts and should have plenty of decent years left in the tank. If Arians can work his magic and make Rashard resemble anything like he was from 09-11, his fantasy owners will be in great shape.
Bruce Arians came out a couple of days ago talking Mendenhall up saying he was a three-down back. And history would suggest, Arians prefers to stick with one back for the majority of carries as evidenced with his time with the Steelers and Colts last year. If Rashard can beat out oft-injured Ryan Williams, which we believe he can, his 2013 season will be a good one.
Unplugged fantasy football fans need to also make note, that Arizona veteran plodder, Beanie Wells was released. He is currently looking for work, if any NFL GM’s are reading, write it down on your business card so you remember.
This is one situation all fantasy owners should be keeping tabs on during training camp. Whoever wins the job will have value coming into the new season. For now, we rank Rashard Mendenhall over Ryan Williams based on his previous good seasons and because of his connection with Arians.
