T.Y. Hilton, WR, Indianapolis Colts
School: Florida International
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
I really didn’t see Hilton’s 2012 season coming. We all knew he was in line for a decent-sized role in the Colts’ offense in 2012, but after seeing him drop a ton of balls in the preseason, he looked like an option that was going to be utilized in the return game more than anything. Well, that proved not to be the case as he was an incredibly effective receiver as well, notching 50 catches for 861 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Now, Hilton is obviously a home run hitter, but with fellow wide receiver Reggie Wayne in the aging process, the Colts are going to need other receivers to step up and that likely means Hilton will be one of those guys. Even though he’s never going to be a ppr machine, he should get more looks his way this year, making him poised to be a valuable asset down the road.
Hilton’s future value can either go one of two ways. One, he can become a Steve Smith-esque player and be that smaller receiver who has a pension for big plays or he can always be that guy who will get you a few big plays, ala Lance Moore but won’t get you more than 600-700 yards very often. I’m afraid I just don’t simply see the athleticism in Hilton that I do in Smith, so I’ll take the latter as a more likely scenario. In dynasty leagues, now would be the time to trade Hilton. In redraft leagues, he can be viewed as a WR3 at this point and not much more.
