Young Jarius Wright has a real chance to shine in 2013 for the Vikings as the new Percy Harvin. Of course, he’s no Percy Harvin, but he was asked to play that role after Harvin was injured last season. And for a few games, Jarius looked like a decent threat on the field. The problem though, is that he isn’t good enough to be THE GUY.

But now that Greg Jennings is with the Vikings, Jarius should have an easier time getting open with more attention paid to Jennings. And with the overall #1 pick, Adrian Peterson taking handoffs, Jarius will be the third or fourth worry for defenses after Kyle Rudolph. All of this adds up to sleeper potential for Mr. Wright.

In fact you could say he’s the right man for the job… see what I did?

Ok, so that was bad but in Jarius’ first two games on the field in 2012, he totaled 10 REC, 114 YDS and a TD. That was not bad. Then he had a stretch of mediocre games where defenses knew what was coming. And then in the final two of the year he totaled 8 REC, 143 YDS and a TD. While his numbers suggest another up and down season is on the horizon, I could easily see him being a solid WR3 this season getting anywhere from 50-70 yards a game and finding a way to score a handful of times.

Potential owners of Jarius need to also remember, he hadn’t even seen the field in 2012 till Harvin (week 10) went down. And to think, he found an instant connection with Ponder, that can only help his chances of improving this season. He could also become a threat running out of the backfield like Harvin was utilized at times. Last season he only saw two carries for an average 5.5 YPC. I bet it’s something coach Frazier explores.
