Alshon Jeffery, WR, Chicago Bears
School: South Carolina
FANTASY FOOTBALL ANALYSIS
Hampered by injuries in his rookie season, Alshon Jeffery has a great shot at becoming a top 30 wide out in year two. Jeffery has the size at 6-3 to be a red zone threat and is fast enough to break free for long gains. His talents should land him a spot as the starter opposite superstar Brandon Marshall. The Bears do not have great depth at WR, so Jeffery will be counted on to make big strides in 2013.
In 2012, before his first injury in week 5, he managed a very useful 14 REC, 184 YDS and two scores. Then he suffered a fractured right hand. Later, with his hand heeled, he needed a scope on his knee and never quite got comfortable the rest of the year.
This offseason, Brandon Marshall has taken upon himself to help speed up Jeffery’s maturation process, training with him in South Florida. Say what you want about Brandon Marshall but his production on the field and the way he prepares himself for the season are second to none. He should be able to help Alshon get ready for year two. Marshall was quoted as saying, “If he just changes some little things, the way he approaches the game as far as physically and mentally, he’s going to be a beast. Because he has that dog in him, he has that in him, that you want in a receiver.”
I wouldn’t spend an early pick on Jeffery but after you get your starters set at the wide receiver position, take a look at Jeffery, he comes with tremendous upside going into his sophomore season. We just hope Jay Cutler doesn’t have tunnel vision, going after Marshall on every pass play!
Unless of course… you are a Marshall owner.
