Derek Jeter Running, Batting Practice, Eyes May 1st Return

The New York Yankees, owners of a 3-4 record and a 2 game deficit in the AL East is looking for some good news, any good news, and they seem to have found it in the progress of short stop Derek Jeter’s rehab.

Advancing to running on the field today and responding nicely to the drills, the Yankees have scheduled batting practice Wednesday for the aging veteran.

Rehabbing a broken ankle, it is a long, hard road for someone of his age, but it looks as if he very well could be donning some Yankees pinstripes come May 1st.

In 2012, Jeter played 159 games, gaining 683 official at bats while hitting at a .316 clip. Adding 15 home runs, 9 stolen bases, 99 runs scored and 58 runs batted in, there is no doubt despite being 38 years old he is still a productive fantasy player.

It is hard to tell how his ankle will hold up to the grueling MLB schedule, but with a little rest each week, he should be able to withstand the summer months and be contributor to your fantasy lineups. Don’t expect numbers that you are accustomed to, but at a weaker position, Jeter is someone that should be owned.
