1.32 Baltimore Ravens Matt Elam, S, Florida, (5-10, 208)
The Baltimore Ravens roster has made a complete overhaul after winning the Super Bowl, and the safety position was just one of the problem areas. Both starting safeties, Ed Reed and Bernard Pollard, have found new homes and the Ravens think they found their next guy in Matt Elam. And I tend not to question their picks, as Ozzie Newsome has proven time and time again to be an excellent judge of talent.
Elam will start right away, his range on the field is already better than anyone they currently employ. His height is said to be his glaring weakness, but that will only come into to play when he drops down to cover tight ends. He has a great vertical at 35.5 inches and should have little trouble batting balls away even from larger receivers.
All-in-all, this was a good start for the defending champs, but making the playoffs next season isn’t a guarantee. Just ask Giants fans.
