The Los Angeles Dodgers made a pair of moves to change the scenery for the starting rotation some as they have activated right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke while placing right-handed pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left groin. Greinke had missed a month after breaking his collarbone. Beckett on the other hand has struggled mightily in 2013 which is why FFLockerRoom told you yesterday that it wouldn’t be shocking if he was placed on the disabled list even if he really didn’t need it, just to give him time to clear his head.
In an unrelated move, the Dodgers have also signed left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez, formerly of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Look for him to be assigned to their Triple-A Albuquerque minor league affiliate. Despite the lack of quality, healthy starting pitching options at the major league level, he will most likely not make the Dodgers rotation any time soon.
