Colorado Rockies Place Jeff Francis On Disabled List, Other Notes

The Colorado Rockies were very busy Thursday. They had to place left-handed starting pitcher Jeff Francis on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left groin. To fill the void on the active roster, the Rockies recalled reliever Rob Scahill and second baseman DJ LeMahieu from their Triple-A minor league affiliate. To also make room on the active roster, Colorado decided to designate third baseman Reid Brignac for assignment.

For Brignac to remain with the organization, he will have to clear the waiver wire process and accept his assignment.

Francis shouldn’t be out too long, although a pulled groin is nothing to laugh at when it comes to pitching.

Look for Scahill to be an extra arm in the bullpen while LeMahieu will act as bench depth to the parent club.
