San Diego Padres Activate C Yasmani Grandal From Restricted List

Catcher Yasmani Grandal has served his 50-game suspension for violating MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and has been activated by the San Diego Padres.

Last season, his first as a Padre, Grandal hit .297  in 192 at bats to go along with 8 home runs and 36 RBI. Walking a solid 31 times as well, there is no doubting that Grandal has a solid bat and nice gap power. But will the lack of an enhancement drug affect his offensive output? Only time will tell. But considering that he catches, the wear and tear could take a toll faster than normal without it.

Grandal was acquired along with Yonder Alonso, Edinson Volquez and Brad Boxberger for Mat Latos in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds back on December 17th, 2011.
