Phillies Recall Joe Savery, Release Chad Durbin

The Phillies have recalled Joe Savery from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take the spot of Chad Durbin in the bullpen.

Durbin was released after posting a 9.00 ERA through 16 innings for the Phillies. Control issues have been at the heart of Durbin’s struggles (5.06 BB/9), although he has never been incredibly successful and has put up an ERA of 5.03 for his career.

Savery has been in the Phillies system since 2007, debuting in 2011 in the big leagues. He’s probably not a guy that can stick at the ML level, but will be used as a lefty specialist and has a 4.71 era through 28.2 big league innings.
