The New York Mets have recalled outfielder Collin Cowgill from their Triple-A Las Vegas minor league affiliate Tuesday. Cowgill, who struggled to the tune of batting .157 earlier this season, is expected to be a role player for now until he can prove his worth with the bat.
The 27 year-old has spent the past three years bouncing around the majors and the minors for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics and Mets has only 4 home runs in 247 major league at-bats while swiping 7 bases.
Don’t expect Cowgill to make an impact this season at the major league level, and he should remain a free agent in all fantasy baseball formats. He has struck out at a more than 1:4 clip in his career and has provided very little gap power to expect any different than what he has performed from 2011-13.
