Detroit Tigers Place C Alex Avila On Disabled List, Other Moves

The Detroit Tigers have had to place catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list due to a deep contusion of his left forearm after being hit by a pitch over the weekend.

Bryan Holaday was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Avila’s spot on the active roster, although it will be Brayan Pena who should get most of the playing time.

There is no reason to believe that Avila will need more than the standard 15 days to recover.

In other moves, the Tigers have recalled outfielder Avisail Garcia from Toledo as Anibal Sanchez‘s replacement on the active roster. Look for him to get most of his playing time coming off the bench as a defensive replacement and occasional start.

Also right-handed reliever Corey Knebel, Detroit’s competitive balance pick, has been signed and will receive a $1,433,400
