It what may be a surprise to many casual football fans, the Oakland Raiders released wide receiver and kick return specialist Josh Cribbs today. One of the most dynamic kick returners in the league over the past decade, Cribbs had become a household name during his heyday with the Browns. Now after recent injuries to his knees, he just didn’t have the same speed and burst. Being released by an organization with such depleted talent isn’t a good sign for Cribbs’ future.
From the 2005 – 2009 seasons he lit up special teams units for 10 return touchdowns. Good luck Cribbs, it doesn’t appear likely that he will get much of an opportunity in the near future. He doesn’t provide special teams help on coverage and was never much of a wide receiver to begin with. If he can’t return kicks at a high level, his career could be over.
