Here we are going to take a closer look at the target breakdown for running backs in week 3. With the NFL going to a more “air raid” approach dual threat running backs are becoming more popular across the NFL and a more viable option in fantasy football. Below I have a list of the RB’s who got 5+ targets this week . I gathered each players number of receptions and then divided it by the number of targets he received to get a the players catch rate percentage. Then to get a closer look I took the players receiving yards and divided that number by his number of targets to find out who makes the most out of the amount of targets they get.
Week 3 had 15 running backs get 5+ targets. The average Yards per Target (YpT) this week was 7.3. Jamaal Charles tied for the lead with 8 targets but did the most damage hauling in 7 of them for 80 yards giving him a nice 10.0 YpT. Although that wasn’t enough, as Joique Bell filled the Reggie Bush role pretty flawlessly in his absence catching 4 of his 5 targets for 69 yards giving him a running back best of 13.8 YpT.
On the other side, Maurice Jones-Drew and Doug Martin did not contribute a lot in the passing game. They each were targeted 6 times, both only catching 2 passes. MJD came away with 19 yards receiving giving him a 3.2 YpT and Doug Martin had 20 yards p. utting him at 3.3 YpT.
Below you will find week 3’s list. Hope you enjoy!
