Week 4 Sleepers and Start’ems for 2013!
What a ugly week! Tons of talent forgot to show up and Eli threw another interception! Thus far it has been a odd start to the season! 3 Quarterbacks have yet to throw an interception, Peyton Manning, Alex Smith and Jake Locker, Eddie Royal leads all receivers with 5 touchdowns and the entire NFC East has combined for just 3 wins!

- WEEK 4 SLEEPERS and START’ems!
Tony Romo Dal @ SD – Romo has thrown just 1 interception compared to 6 touchdowns in the 1st- 3 weeks and has thrown for multiple touchdowns in 2 of the 3 weeks. Heading out to face the San Diego Chargers in Week 4 who have allowed quarterbacks thus far to throw for 300-plus yards in each game including a 428 yard game by Michael Vick.
Tom Brady NE @ ATL – Patriots rookie receivers Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins showed major improvement last week and Tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) has a good chance to play Sunday at Atlanta. The Falcons and their banged-up defense are giving up 24.3 points per game to opposing quarterbacks, tied for 9th-most in the league. Look for Brady to build on the momentum from last week’s decent performance of 225 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Terelle Pryor Oak vs Wash – IF Pryor is cleared good-to-go this week, he is the potential to be a Top 8 fantasy QB with a fantastic matchup. Pryor himself has showed great ability to get outside the pocket and extend plays as he has been able to record 215+ passing yards in 2 of his 1st-3 weeks int he league. Teams have had a field day against the Redskins thus far, as the Redskins defense has allowed each quarterback faced thus far has thrown for 300-plus yards and multiple touchdowns (8 passing, 1 rushing).
Michael Vick Phi @ Den – Vick has thrown for 832 yards with 5 touchdowns, 2interceptions including rushing for 18 carries for 187 yards while adding 2 rushing touchdowns. If Vick can stay healthy he is on pace for nearly 1,000 yards rushing this season. Opposing quarterbacks have thrown more passes (142) against the Broncos than any other team in the NFL. Look for Vick to continue that trend in which should be a high-scoring game.
- Running Backs
Darren McFadden Oak vs Wash – The Redskins have allowed the 2nd most rushing yards thus far to opposing running backs (465) just 2nd behind the Jaguars. They have allowed running backs to produce 100-plus total yards in each of the past 3 weeks including at least 1 touchdown per week.
Trent Richardson Ind @ Jac – The Jaguars rank dead last against the run, allowing 167.7 yards per game and 5.2 yards per carry. The Jaguars have allowed running backs to reach and surpass 69 yards rushing in 3 weeks straight including a touchdown to Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles.
Maurice Jones-Drew Jac vs Indy – He has been able to rush for at least 100 yards on the ground in 5 of his last 6 meetings with the Colts, averaging 120.2 yards per game. He has also scored 6 total touchdowns in his last 6 games against the Colts.
Bilal Powell NYJ @ Ten – Powell rushed for 149 yards on 27 carries against the Bills, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Two weeks straight now Powell has had a productive game rushing for 100-plus yards last week and rushed for a touchdown in Week 2 against the Patriots. The Titans over the past 2 weeks have been beat up by opposing RBs allowing the Houston Texans duo to produce 172 total yards rushing with both Arian Foster and Ben Tate going over 75 yards each. Chargers RB’s totaled over 100 yards on the ground and another 85 yards receiving.
- Wide Receivers
Brandon Marshall Chi @ Det – Marshall has 20 receptions for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns on 28 targets through his first 3 games. He’ll look for his 3rd touchdown of the season in Week 4 at Detroit. He logged in 123 yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions in his last 2 games against the Lions.
Dez Bryant Dal @ SD – The Chargers have given up the MOST yards through the air to quarterbacks and receiving corps through 3 games 1,066 with an average of 355 yards per game. Quarterback Tony Romo has thrown just 1 interception compared to 6 touchdowns in the 1st- 3 weeks and has thrown for multiple touchdowns in 2 of the 3 weeks. Heading out to face the San Diego Chargers in Week 4 who have allowed quarterbacks thus far to throw for 300-plus yards in each game including a 428 yard game by Michael Vick.
DeSean Jackson Phi @ Den – Vick has thrown for 832 yards with 5 touchdowns, 2interceptions including rushing for 18 carries for 187 yards while adding 2 rushing touchdowns. If Vick can stay healthy he is on pace for nearly 1,000 yards rushing this season. Opposing quarterbacks have thrown more passes (142) against the Broncos than any other team in the NFL. Look for Vick to continue that trend in which should be a high-scoring game.
Pierre Garcon Was @ Oak – Garcon, who rushed the ball on an end around for 10 yards and a first down, caught a team-high 8 receptions for 73 yards. Only Santana Moss had more yards with 77 in the game. Garcon did not get into the end zone, however, as Griffin had no TD passes. Garcon was targeted a team-high 13 times in the game. With Washington heading west to play at Oakland Week 4, Garcon has at least 7 receptions in all 3 games he’s played. He has a touchdown and is averaging over 100 yards per game in his last 2 contests.
Julian Edelman NE @ ATL – The Falcons and their banged-up defense are giving up 24.3 points per game to opposing quarterbacks, tied for 9th-most in the league. Look for Brady to build on the momentum from last week’s decent performance of 225 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Other Wide Receivers with nice matchups – Brian Hartline Mia vs NO, Denarius Moore Oak vs Was, Rod Streater Oak vs Was, Donnie Avery KC vs NYG, Marlon Brown Balt @ Buf, Santana Moss Was @ Oak, Ryan Broyles Det vs Chi
- Tight Ends
Antonio Gates SD vs Dal – Gates has turned in 2 productive games in a row now, producing 100-plus yards in Week 2 and a touchdown in Week 3. Gates now has produced at least 6 receptions in back to back games and has recorded at least 7 targets in each of his last 2 games.
Jason Witten Dal @ SD – Witten has recorded 65-plus yards in 2 of his first 3 games thus far including 2 touchdowns and 70 yards in Week 1. Last week Gavin Escobar stole a 24-yard touchdown pass from Witten but he continues to be a main fixture for quarterback Tony Romo as he has recorded at least 6 targets in each of the first 3 weeks and has produced 5-plus receptions in 2 of the 3 weeks.
Jordan Cameron Cle @ Cin – Following a three-touchdown outing Sunday against the Vikings (two touchdowns from Brian Hoyer, one from holder Spencer Lanning on a fake field-goal play), it’s abundantly clear that Jordan Cameron is an obvious must-start in Fantasy going forward. Cameron now has 4 touchdowns on the season for the Browns. He was targeted 11 times overall during Sunday’s game and has lead the team in targets in 2 of the 1st 3 weeks.
Martellus Bennett Chi @ Det – Bennett was barely involved in the passing game as he was targeted just 5 times. He finished with only 2 receptions for 10 yards in a 40-23 victory. He has 12 receptions for 135 yards and 3 touchdowns through 3 games. Look for Bennett to bounce back and get on track in a potential shoot out.
- ATTENTION TEAM OWNERS – If your players are not listed it is NOT because I don’t like them. They could have a better match-up within the next 2 weeks and I could be saving them for another weeks article.
Good luck and enjoy!
