Thursday Night Fantasy Football Injury Report: 49ers vs Rams

Who knew tonight would be such a big game for the 49ers? Looking to bounce back and avoid a 1-3 start to the 2013 NFL season, expect the Niners to pull out all the stops in order to even their record and not fall too far behind the division leading Seahawks. Lets take a look at the probables for tonight with the latest updates heading into the Thursday nighter.

(Injury in bold, designation in parentheses)

Vernon Davis (strained hamstring, Questionable): Davis remains a game time decision for tonight’s game, as pre-game warmups will play a big role in determining whether he plays this week or not. Coming off a short week, he only practiced on a limited basis each day, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that he hasn’t really pushed that hamstring yet. We really won’t have a clue about how he will respond until he really goes full speed and pushes that hamstring a bit. According to reports, he has a much better chance of playing this week than he did last week, which is likely a product of being proactive and skipping Sunday’s loss to the Colts. Either way, my expectation is that he will suit up tonight, but keep an eye on his ability to speed up/slow down, which will be indicative of his comfort and pain levels.

Frank Gore (knee, Probable): Gore dealt with some soreness early in the week in his knee, which is unsurprising considering his extensive laundry list of knee surgeries. He put in full participation in practice all week and appears ready to go. On a non-injury note, I expect Gore to be a monster tonight against an under-performing Rams defense, especially considering how ticked off he was after last week’s bust of a game.

Daryl Richardson (foot, Probable): Anyone as pissed off as I was last week after starting Richardson and seeing him leave the game after two plays? Apparently, this foot “issue” has bugged him enough to stop him from playing most of the game last week, but it’s interesting to see that he put in full practice participation the last two days. Without knowing the exact injury or the extent of the injury, it’s hard to say exactly what Richardson is dealing with and how irritable the condition actually is. But with what we saw last week, he must be dealing with a decent amount of discomfort to cause him to leave the game that quickly. Richardson is expected to play tonight and be in a full timeshare with Isaiah Pead, who did not really impress on Sunday. Against an angry and embarrassed 49ers defense, I expect both guys to be lower level flex plays at best this week.

Chris Givens (knee, Probable): Givens has been dealing with what is considered a minor knee issue. He practiced in full on both Tuesday and Wednesday, which lines up perfectly with his probable tag. Givens looks ready to go for tonight’s game.
