The Denver Broncos are going to deactivate running back Ronnie Hillman for week 8 against the visiting Washington Redskins. The ball security issues that have plagued Hillman finally caught up to him in week 7 when his fourth quarter fumble against the Colts stopped all the momentum and cost them any chance of making the comeback. While it was the first fumble Hillman lost this season it was not his first fumble and during the preseason his fumble issues were noted heavily amongst the media.
Mike Klis of the Denver Post is the one who broke the news on twitter and he also mentioned that it will be C.J. Anderson who is going to be active for week 8. He will join rookie Montee Ball as the men behind Knowshon Moreno. I get the feeling that Denver trusts Ball more than Anderson who is a UDFA rookie out of Cal, but not much more. The Broncos like C.J. a lot, and that was evident when they kept him on the roster even after suffering an MCL sprain in the first preseason game. Even though Ball will likely get first crack at spelling Moreno, my sense is that it will be the Knowshon show as long as he can handle the snaps. Since Montee has had trouble holding onto the football himself, he won’t get many shots with the game in the balance. And with C.J. not getting much playing time with the offense in general, he won’t be trusted to protect Manning behind an already shaky O-line. Moreno is the one you want to own, and I wouldn’t touch either of the other two with a ten foot poll this week. That will be evident after I go re-rank the Denver RBs.
