UPDATE: The trade deadline passed and Jared Allen is staying put with the Vikings. I’m sure Vikings fans are thrilled with the news as he’s one of the few bright spots for an otherwise awful team at the moment.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, via his twitter account, the Seattle Seahawks are making a bid to secure the services of Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen. It would require some restructuring of Allen’s current contract but I bet Jared would be willing to talk if Seattle was serious. The Seahawks are a Super Bowl contender and Jared isn’t getting any younger. And with the Vikings probably going back into rebuilding mode after this season, he still wants a chance at the elusive ring. In Seattle, he would join an already great defensive line who currently sits at third among teams in sacks.
Allen has had 6 straight seasons with double-digit sacks and is sitting at 4.5 for the season right now. He’s still an elite player and would make the Seahawks even more dangerous than they already are. It would be scary to think how good that line would be with Allen rotating in with Cliff Avril, Chris Clemons and Michael Bennett.
Citing another source, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports said in a tweet that the Vikings have talked to multiple teams about Allen, but it appears like Seattle may be the most serious.
In an odd year, with some big names already being traded, another blockbuster move wouldn’t shock me. And as a Lions fan, I wouldn’t hate to see Jared Allen out of the division.
Seattle making 11th-hour push to trade for Vikings Pro-Bowl DE Jared Allen, per multiple sources. Vikings also talking to second team.
