NFC South News: Roddy White Close To Returning, Doug Martin Not Practicing

NFC South News and Notes

Atlanta Falcons:  Longtime stud wide receiver, Roddy White, was close to returning in week 9 but he and the coaches decided to play it safe after he warmed up on the field prior to the game versus the Carolina Panthers. White appears ready to take the field but shouldn’t be used right away. His owners might not have a better option, just be wary of having a good game. He’ll be going against a vaunted Seattle secondary who held Vincent Jackson in check last week. White could be even healthier the following week but then he gets to face off against Darrelle Revis whom is also getting healthier every week.

New Orleans Saints:  For those monitoring the playing time of a certain Jimmy Graham, he played on 60 of the possible 72 offensive snaps in week 9. No need to worry about his injury anymore.

On the injury front, Darren Sproles who suffered a concussion early against the Jets last week has been medically cleared and has resumed practicing in full.

Carolina Panthers:  The Panthers placed G/C Jeff Byers on injured reserve because of a Lisfranc injury. He was already filling in for G Chris Scott, so the Panthers will need to add some depth at the position before week 10.

Jonathan Stewart made his long-awaited return in week 9 and looked pretty darn good being his first game back. It’s unclear if he will start to out carry DeAngelo Williams but more than likely, head coach Ron Rivera will play the hot hand on any given night.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  For once this season it’s the team on the opposite side of the field getting all of the negative attention. Coach Greg Schiano is probably thrilled it’s not him getting the negative press this time. While the Martin/Incognito situation is sick and needs to be taken care of it has to be a distraction for the team. I would look for the Bucs to have a good shot at winning this week. It could be their best opportunity for a win this season.

Schiano also said this week that they would only let Doug Martin back on the field if Doctors tell him he can’t do any further damage. I still don’t buy it, why risk your best player on a lost season? It doesn’t make sense and the Bucs just need to put Martin on IR.
