AFC South News and Notes

Indianapolis Colts:  Trent Richardson was added to the injury report after Thursday’s practice with a calf issue. It doesn’t appear that T-Rich will miss the game against the Arizona Cardinals but mid-week adds to the injury report are never good. Keep an eye on his practice participation Friday. If for some reason Richardson were to miss week 12, that would mean more work for the better performing Donald Brown.

In other RB news, the Colts signed Chris Rainey, not to be confused with Bobby Rainey, whom everybody is scrambling to get off waivers. Chris Rainey was with the Steelers last season but was let go when he fell into some legal trouble. He could provide depth behind Trent and Donald and also serve as a kick/punt returner.

Not that I think Darrius Heyward-Bey is a great option, but he is better than the reserves playing behind him. And he’s practicing in full which is a good sign for Andrew Luck, Coby Fleener and TY Hilton owners. DHB can stretch the field and will take a little heat off of Hilton and Fleener.

Tennessee Titans:  Last week the Titans placed QB Jake Locker on IR because of his Lisfranc injury that will need between 5-6 months to heal. That means Ryan Fitzpatrick will start the remainder of the season. Fitz is more than capable of putting up decent numbers, so Kendall Wright should be fine in PPR leagues and Chris Johnson will continue to possibly disappoint his owners most weeks.

Rookie receiver Justin Hunter was also listed as a full participant in Thursday’s practice. He had suffered a concussion during the Thursday night game in week 10 after playing his best game of the year. It wasn’t an eye-opening performance but the 51 yards are now his career high. It’s possible that Hunter could play a lot more down the stretch but don’t go adding him to your roster just yet.

Houston Texans:  Ben Tate was limited again at practice on Thursday but everyone expects him to play against the Jaguars. He should be started in all leagues and doesn’t appear to be a risk to miss week 12. Even though the team has little to play for, personally, Tate knows this is his opportunity to show the Texans and other teams why he will deserve a big contract after the season.

Even though rookie QB Case Keenum was benched last week in favor of much maligned Matt Schaub, it will be Keenum that starts for week 12. He has a great matchup against Jacksonville that surrendered a monster performance to Carson Palmer a week ago.

Jacksonville Jaguars:  Cecil Shorts was very upset with his role after the week 11 game where he caught just two receptions and only saw one target till midway through the fourth quarter. And I can completely understand why, he’s the best receiver on the team. And we all know what happens when receivers say they want the ball. They generally do get more targets the following week. I like Shorts a lot and because he opened his big mouth to the reporters, I like the possibility of him having a good game even more.

Mike Brown, who is currently the WR2 for the Jags is very questionable this week with a shoulder injury that has kept him out of practice.
