Despite what can only be described as a horrific ending to an otherwise outstanding season when Peyton Manning threw for a Super Bowl record 34 completions which resulted in only 280 passing yards and a 43-08 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Manning was one of the most dominant quarterbacks from week 1 of 2013.
The ride began September 5th when he faced the Baltimore Ravens in which turned out to be a freakishly awesome week that made history as he completed 27 of his 42 passes for 462 yards and 7 touchdowns. In fact nearly the whole 2013 season was spectacular.
Manning passed for over 400 yards 4 times, had only 2 weeks in which he passed for less than 280 yards and averaged 3.5 touchdowns for the season as a whole. The effort as a whole allotted Manning 406 fantasy points, 58 points above the second highest ranked quarterback Drew Brees.
His final statistics is something that looks like a misprint, but they are indeed real. Passing for a 68.3% completion clip, he totaled 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns to go along with only 10 interceptions. Only Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles who had a 13.5:1 ratio bested Manning’s 5.5:1.
While Manning is being made the monster for the Super Bowl atrocity, it is him that brought many fantasy football enthusiasts the dominating edge at the quarterback position that most people never get to enjoy.
Making things sicker, in week’s 14, 15 and 16, which is most commonly known as the fantasy playoffs, Manning had stat lines of 397/4, 289/2 and 400/4.
Looking towards the 2014 season, Manning will undoubtedly be ready to right what went wrong at this season’s end. The 37-year-old, who will turn 38 before next year, passed for nearly 4,700 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2012 as well, meaning that he is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. A top-5 2014 finish is expected. With all of the explosive offensive talent on the Denver Broncos side that includes Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker and Wes Welker at wideout, Knowshon Moreno at running back and Julius Thomas at the tight end position, Manning will have plenty of options to check down to.
