Detroit Lions Lose DE Willie Young To Chicago Bears

FFLR_Report

It has been a pretty tough start to the free agency period for the Detroit Lions despite the signing of Golden Tate yesterday to a five-year deal. Strapped with salary cap issues, the Lions, who watched Willie Young grow into a prominent defensive end in 2013, his first as a regular starter, saw him leave for their division rival Chicago Bears today.

The 28-year-old Young agreed to a three-year, $9 million dollar contract, $4 million of which is guaranteed. He also joins Lamarr Houston who also just signed a long-term deal giving the Bears a pair of younger, energetic defensive ends that should be able to cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks.

Young, who played along Ziggy Ansah on Detroit’s formidable line last year, had 48 quarterback hurries, ranking him third in the NFL just behind Robert Quinn and Brian Robison

Look for the Lions to look for Young’s replacement during May’s NFL Draft.
