After drawing interest from the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and most notably, the New York Jets, TE Brandon Pettigrew decided to re-sign with the Detroit Lions. He signed a four-year deal worth $16 million dollars and roughly $8 million guaranteed.
As a Lions fan, I am not thrilled with Pettigrew coming back. He’s never been much of a blocker, although last year he did seem to make some improvements in that regard, and he has had trouble holding onto the ball in critical situations. He doesn’t have difference making speed either. I’m not sure why the Lions didn’t try and lock up Ndamukong Suh first, but they had to view TE as a priority. Personally, I would rather have let him walk and develop surprising rookie Joseph Fauria and look to the draft for a solid blocking TE with upside.
