Over the past two days, the Carolina Panthers have added Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood to help bolster the WR position. After losing both Steve Smith and Brandon Lafel, it became a priority to get Cam Newton some weapons.
I use the term ‘weapons’ loosely but Cotchery and Underwood are capable of turning into decent #3 and #4 receivers. But currently they are sitting atop the depth chart and that isn’t going to work. Expect the Panthers to keep looking for a suitable top receiving threat during free agency.
There have been reports that the Panthers are looking in on Philadelphia Eagles wideout DeSean Jackson. While he would be a huge upgrade at the position, would they risk bringing in someone who could disrupt the locker room after just ousting their much beloved receiver Steve Smith for the same reason?
Combined, Cotchery and Underwood totaled 68 receptions for 1,042 yards in 2013 for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers respectively.
