Kolten Wong wins 2b job

It comes as no surprise that Kolten Wong has been named the starting second baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals. To be honest, the big surprise was the $5.25 million they gave to Mark Ellis this off season.

We already had projected Wong for over 500 at-bats so his ranking position will not change based on this news. Wong was a career .301 hitter in the minor leagues but there’s still questions whether he’s ready for major league pitching. Wong could be a decent provider of speed as we have him projected for 22 stolen bases this season but a lack of power and projected batting average below .260 still limit his potential. He’s still a useful middle infielder in deeper leagues and with his age and limited experience, there’s always the chance he out performs the projections.
