Dustin Keller was signed last off-season to be the starting TE for the Miami Dolphins but never saw the regular season after taking a vicious hit to his right knee. He tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in a preseason game versus the Houston Texans.
It was a tough break for a player that started every game during his first four season with the Jets and then was only able to complete 8 games in his fifth year. That forced him into a play for pay situation and was why he only managed a one-year deal with the Dolphins. Now, he finds himself back in the same situation and will look to catch on with anyone to jump start his career. Obviously the New England Patriots would be an ideal fit for someone like Keller.
If healthy, it would be a no-brainer to bring a guy like Keller onto the team to help steady the water as Rob Gronkowski still recovers from his own injuries.
Most likely though, the Patriots are working Keller out to give themselves an option after the draft if they can’t get the player they want.
