The San Francisco 49ers have signed quarterback Josh Johnson. Johnson had played previously for the 49ers in 2012 and also was with Jim Harbaugh at the University of San Diego.

He knows the system and should come in to compete for backup duties. His skill set is already similar to Colin Kaepernick, that should give him a leg up on Blaine Gabbert

Johnson was most recently with the Cincinnati Bengals but was released on May 12th after they signed Jason Campbell and drafted Alabama QB A.J. McCarron.
