San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was a no-show for their voluntary offseason workout yesterday. Matt Maiocco reported for CSNBayArea that Jim Harbaugh had no explanation for Davis’ absence and that, “I’ve always chosen as a policy not to discuss contracts publicly.”
With Vernon skipping the program, he will likely forfeit a $200,000 dollar workout bonus.
At this time, neither Davis nor the 49ers have given a reason as to why he missed the workouts. Davis is due $5.3 million this season, the fifth of a six year deal.
He’s still one of the premier tight ends in the game and can break off huge fantasy numbers on any given week. Last season, his best since 2009, we saw him catch 52 RECs for 850 YDS and 13 TDs. He will be one of the first TEs off the board whether he attended the voluntary workout or not.
In the meantime, second-year TE Vance McDonald will likely see an increase in first team reps during the program.
But 200k dollars Vernon? I really hope that it wasn’t just because he didn’t feel like it…
