The Carolina Panthers must be really sure of themselves at the running back position because they just traded Kenjon Barner to the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional seventh-round pick in next year’s draft.
In Philly, Barner likely assumes the same spot in which he left as the 4th RB on the roster. But the difference being, the guy directly ahead of him, Chris Polk, has been battling a hamstring injury and missed a lot of practice. This could spell bad news for Polk if he can’t make it back on the field soon.
Kelly is familiar with Barner from their time together at Oregon and should be able to whip him into shape. His time in Carolina was a big disappointment and he’s been slow to learn the NFL ways. Earlier word out of camp was that he was still having major issues adjusting to pass protection. In the Eagles quick attacking system, this becomes less of a concern and he might fit right in.
