San Diego Padres closer, Joaquin Benoit, has been dealing with some shoulder issues recently and hasn’t taken the field in over a week. He could be headed to the DL soon to give him time to heal properly.
Subbing for Benoit last night was Kevin Quackenbush. He earned his first save of the season and could be the closer for the foreseeable future. He sports a 2.35 ERA and a nice 0.97 WHIP. He’s also striking out just under one batter per inning.
If you are in need of a closer or have Benoit on your roster, it’s time to make a waiver claim on Quackenbush now. Shoulder injuries can linger for weeks and the Padres shouldn’t be in a hurry to rush him back. Since taking over for Huston Street, Benoit was 6/7 on save chances.
