Patriots Trade G Logan Mankins For Buccaneers TE Tim Wright: The New England Patriots have traded All-Pro left guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for TE Tim Wright and their 2015 fourth-round draft pick.
FFLockerRoom Sports: The Pats have been searching for a compliment to Rob Gronkowski since losing Aaron Hernandez to his well publicized legal matters, they may have just found themselves a keeper. Tim Wright, who posted 54 receptions, 571 yards and 5 touchdowns his rookie season, has some huge upside going forward. Wright had been having a bad camp according to head coach Lovie Smith but hopefully the move to Foxboro will get him going in the right direction. His potential as a fantasy asset in 2014 just went up and if you had already drafted in a deep league, I would put a waiver claim on him now. Especially if you have guys like Jared Cook as your backup. His floor, if playing as the ‘move’ TE in New England should be 35-45 receptions and his ceiling could possibly be closer to 70-75. Guys like Jared and Brent Celek are also going to be within that range and when in doubt, go with the guy who has big potential. If Tim and Tom Brady can make quick work of synching on the field, who knows where this could lead. At some point during the season, it’s almost a guarantee that Gronk will miss some time, and that could be when Wright goes off.
As for the other side of the trade, Doug Martin should be thrilled. Logan was ranked as a top-five guard by Pro Football Focus in the running department last season. If you liked Martin going into 2014, this should only give you more confidence.
